NFL owners approve $9.6 billion sale of the Seattle Seahawks

On Wednesday, NFL owners unanimously approved the sale of the Seattle Seahawks for $9.6 billion to the Khosla family.
This sale makes Seattle the biggest transaction for a team ever made in the NFL.
A new era will come for the Seahawks after 29 years of ownership by the family of the late Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen.
The purchase comes from a group led by venture capitalist Vinod Khosla's family.
Khosla's wife, Neeru Khosla, will be the Seahawks' controlling owner, while their son, Neal Khosla, will have an ownership role within the franchise.
Allen, who passed away in 2018, left directions that both his NFL and NBA teams (Portland Trail Blazers) were to be sold, and the proceeds would go to charity.
The Khoslas also hold a minority ownership stake in the 49ers, one they would have to sell as owners of another NFL team.
While the Khoslas are the main asset of the ownership group, the other investors who have purchased the team have not been made public yet.
The reigning Super Bowl champions will open the season against the Patriots in Seattle with a new trophy and ownership.

While we've seen sales and the passing of owners of multiple teams in recent years, it would look like we won't get another one in a while.
“There are no teams that are going to be sold in the foreseeable future,” said sports business consultant Marc Ganis.
“Events would have to occur that are not happy events that might change that. But as things stand right now, there are no teams that are for sale or likely to be sold in the near term.”
Through the past couple of years, no team owner has given any nod or sign that they are looking to sell their franchises.
