Bijan Robinson and Jamhyr Gibbs hold in: Could they reset the RB market?

The latest chapter in a series of dramatic training camp storylines, here's the lowdown on what's happening with Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Robinson watched the Atlanta Falcons' session in his jersey, sidelined by a contract dispute.

Jahmyr Gibbs is in the same boat up in Detroit, still working through a new deal with the Lions that hasn't come together yet.

Robinson and Gibbs had their fifth-year options picked up this offseason, so it's not like either side is walking away; this is a pure leverage play by both players.

What the Falcons and Lions have said

Asked for an update about Gibbs on Wednesday, Lions coach Dan Campbell was somewhat vague.

"You guys know how we feel about Gibbs," Campbell told reporters. "It'll come as it comes. I think that's the best way to say it.

"This is both sides working through something, and we'll take it as it comes, but that's where it is."

The Falcons want Robinson there long-term, but haven't committed to getting a deal done before the season starts.

"We'll figure it out," Matt Ryan, the team's new president of football, told USA TODAY Sports' Jarrett Bell in June.

"Bijan, he's a really special player," he continued. "There's no timetable for kind of hammering that out, but he's a guy that we certainly want here to be a part of the organization for a long time."

Where the running back market stands

Philadelphia Eagles' Saquon Barkley sits alone at the top of the running back market right now at $20.6 million a year.

Robinson led the league in scrimmage yards last year with 2,298, a new Falcons record, and has 5,648 yards and 34 touchdowns across three seasons since going No. 8 overall in 2023.

He currently sits 27th in running back salary rankings, projected to earn just shy of $5.5 million in 2026.

Gibbs has been equally as productive, with 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 total touchdowns in the three years since he was taken four picks behind Robinson at No. 12.

And he's not far behind Robinson in pay either, relatively speaking, as the 31st highest-paid back set to earn just under $4.5 million in 2026.

If and when their new deals are done, both players could reset the market, or at least come close.
