Cameron Jordan named 'greatest defensive football player' in Saints history

"The greatest defensive player in football in New Orleans history," is how Davis described his former teammate. "Surpassing Ricky Jackson."

The sack record that says it all

Davis leaned on the numbers to make his case, where Jordan sits 17th on the NFL's all-time sack list with 132, one spot clear of Jackson with 128.

"Ricky Jackson is Mr. New Orleans, and it's not any shade on Ricky Jackson," Davis began, giving credit to the man whose sack record Jordan surpassed in 2025.

"Cam has broken every statistic that Ricky, you know, before they were even counting sacks. Cam has passed that one. So I just think it goes to show who he is.

"And what Cam does very well," Davis continued, "He plays the run very well, probably better than he does sacking the quarterback, which says a lot because I think this year he’ll go into the top eight of sacks all time.”

Jordan signed a one-year deal in June to remain for a 16th year with the only team he's ever known.

In 2026, he would need to leapfrog names like Lawrence Taylor and Jared Allen just to crack the top 15, and Terrell Suggs sits at the eighth spot with 139.

Then again, Jordan just posted a team-high 10.5 sacks in his 15th season, starting all 17 games and adding 47 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery along the way.

Whether Davis's top-eight prediction comes true is beside the point, really.

The fact that a teammate-turned-rival is even making the case tells you plenty about how the league views Jordan, a point backed up by his appearance in the NFL Top 100.
