NFL fines Cowboys and Saints $500k each after fight

According to reports, at least seven fights broke out during practice between the Saints' and Cowboys' players.

"The Competition Committee has made sportsmanship — including at joint practices — a point of emphasis over the past several years," the NFL said in a statement.

"All clubs were reminded by memo prior to training camp of their responsibility in preventing unsportsmanlike behavior at joint practices that has the potential to result in injury."

How the events unfolded

Cowboys' defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected from practice as tussles arose as the teams went on in Oxnard.

While some fights were minor squabbles between the teams, some others led to helmets being thrown and the resemblance of a German suplex, courtesy of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner's son, Brock Rechsteiner.

Brian Schottenheimer noted after the practice that it had been "chippy on both sides," mentioning they talked about cancelling it if the fights kept going.

Earlier on Thursday, Schottenheimer told reporters that the league had requested the film of Tuesday's practice, hinting at a possible fine for both teams.

The Saints and the Cowboys will see each other again when they face off for their last preseason game on Aug 28 in Dallas.
