'I'm trying to get the rushing title': Achane's bold Dolphins vow

After finishing 7-10 last year, the hope is that the influx of new faces will help head coach Jeff Hafley guide his side to success in 2026.

The one player who may have the biggest say in whether that happens is arguably their best, running back De'Von Achane.

Nothing but the best will do for Achane

The Dolphins are not heavily fancied in 2026, but don't tell Achane that. Asked what his and the team's goals are for 2026, the 24-year-old suggested he's setting his sights sky high.

“I’m trying to get the rushing title," he told Cameron Wolfe and Steve Smith at the Dolphins training camp at Miami Gardens, Florida.

"That’s something I want to do this year," he continued. "I feel like if I get the rushing title, then obviously, you know, every game, we’re doing some good.

"If we’re productive, if I’m being productive, and helping my team win, then I feel like as a whole, we’re going to be great.”

Achane finished fifth among all running backs in 2025 with 1,350 yards on the ground, and his 5.7 yards per carry led all qualified rushers in the league by a full 0.5 yards.

Repeating or coming close to that feat may be more challenging now that star wideout Jaylen Waddle is no longer around to help keep defenses honest, but Achane believes he can help the newcomers reach new heights.

“We’ve got a lot of new faces, so I feel like I’ve got to go out there, I’ve got to lead, I’ve got to show by example. And I feel like my teammates are going to follow.”

The Dolphins open Week 1 against the Raiders on September 13. It sounds like Achane intends to make an early statement in Vegas.
