Lions' Goff explains why Amon-Ra St. Brown is 'the best WR in the league'

But don't tell that to Detroit quarterback Jared Goff, as he has an entirely different take.

With training camp just days away, the Lions quarterback sat down with NFL Network's The Insiders to explain why teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown should be No. 1.

What Goff said about St. Brown

"I think he's the best wide receiver in the league. I think he's the only guy who catches it, runs with it, blocks, does everything. He can do it all," Goff said.

"It's a lot of fun to work with him and to play with him. The way he works in practice, he makes me want to get him the ball, he makes me want to reward him for all his hard work.

"It makes everyone around him work harder," he continued. "He's such a great teammate, great player, great person, and I love playing with him."

It's not just Goff who says it

His thinking was echoed by former offensive coordinator John Morton last year, who praised St. Brown's complete skill set.

St. Brown's 2025 numbers back him up

Last year, the 26-year-old caught 117 passes for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns, and somehow that still classifies as his second-best year as a pro.

Pro Football Focus ranked him third among 81 qualified wide receivers with a 90.7 overall grade, which put him one spot ahead of Chase and 11 places ahead of Jefferson.

He dropped only five passes all year and manufactured 591 yards after the catch, doing so with a new offensive coordinator too, after Ben Johnson left for Chicago, a change plenty assumed would knock him off rhythm.

St. Brown's career case is even stronger

Detroit took him in the fourth round back in 2021, 112th overall, a point that's still worth throwing in the face of every scouting department that passed over him.

Since then, he's racked up 547 catches for 6,252 yards across 83 games, including four straight seasons over 100 receptions and 1,100 yards.

Nobody at the position has caught more than his 547 passes since he entered the league, a mark that helped him earn First-Team All-Pro honours in both 2023 and 2024, and place him on a run of four consecutive Pro Bowl nods heading into 2026.

That yardage total also helps him and Goff lead all quarterback-to-receiver pairings in producing the most combined receiving yards in the last five years.

It doesn't end there. In the four playoff games he's played, St. Brown has averaged a whopping 7.5 catches for 103 yards per game.

And finally, if more evidence were needed, since 2023, St. Brown leads every receiver in the league in touchdown catches with 33.

Has fifth place ever looked like more of a mistake? Given the talent above him, it's hard to say, but if he continues on this pace, it's going to be harder to keep him from climbing those rankings.
