Jeremiyah Love determined to shut down Cardinals' doubters

The Arizona Cardinals have been criticised for spending the No. 3 overall pick on a running back, but Jeremiyah Love isn't letting it faze him.

Instead, the Notre Dame product is out to "prove the Cardinals right" as he embarks on what many believe could be a Rookie Offensive Player of the Year campaign.

Speaking to NFL Network, Love expanded on what motivates him to prove the detractors wrong.

Love brushes off the value debate

"I really do not pay attention to it much", he told Ian Rapoport and Kurt Warner.

"You know, I have seen it a couple of times, 'a running back should not be selected that high', but at the end of the day, the Cardinals saw something in me that no other team before saw in me.

"That just goes to show what type of player that the Cardinals see me as and what type of player the rest of the league probably sees me as as well, because if I did not go to the Cardinals, I was probably going to get drafted right after that," he laughed.

Last year, despite surrendering touches to Jadarian Price, Love put up 1,652 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns, taking home the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back for his efforts.

That kind of ability, he believes, is what can help him win over the critics.

"People see my talent, and they see it as something that can help them win games, and I am going to prove them right.

"I am going to prove the Cardinals right, that it was a good decision to draft me where I was drafted," he continued.

"I am just going to go out there and play my best, no matter what team I am on, no matter what scheme I am in, I am going to go out and do what I do."

Can Love prove the naysayers wrong?

As explosive as it gets, Love's got the agility and acceleration to score on any given play.

He also profiles as an excellent option as a receiver out of the backfield, which should mean he remains on the field on passing downs.

The Cardinals' offense may not present him with many opportunities to take full advantage of his talents, and he may split carries with Tyler Allgeier to start.

But at 6'0" and 214lbs, he's got the powerful frame to take on a heavy workload, and he should go from strength to strength once the season gets going.

The debate about how much draft capital to invest in a running back will rage on, but I have no doubt Love will become a top five NFL back within a season or two.
