Jonathan Taylor ranks among highest-paid RBs after new Colts deal

Two days after Bijan Robinson reset the running back market in Atlanta, the Indianapolis Colts have taken care of their own star tailback.
Jonathan Taylor has put pen to paper on a two-year extension worth up to $47 million with $39 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
No drama for Taylor at the second time of asking
Taylor was heading into the final year of the three-year, $42 million deal he'd signed back in 2023 and which only got done after he put in a trade request.
Nothing like that happened this time around, with the 27-year-old making clear his intentions to stay in Indianapolis.
Taylor's deal ranks No. 3 among RBs
Taylor's new deal comes out to $22 million per year, which falls behind only Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs, both of whom signed extensions this week.

The production behind Taylor's price tag
Last season, Taylor carried the ball 323 times and scored 18 rushing touchdowns on the ground, both league highs.
He also produced 1,585 rushing yards, a number which ranked third among all running backs.
Since Taylor entered the league in 2020, only Derrick Henry has more rushing yards and more total touchdowns.
And while former Colts star Edgerrin James still leads Taylor in franchise rushing yards, only 1,628 separate the two.
Colts betting big on their core three
Indianapolis has spent the whole offseason paying to keep the pieces that had its offense rolling before injuries wrecked the back half of last season.
Quarterback Daniel Jones received a two-year, $88 million deal, followed not long after by wideout Alec Pierce with a four-year extension and $114 million of his own.
With Jones healthy again and Pierce and Taylor both locked up long-term, Indianapolis is betting the three of them can help recapture their early 2025 form.
