Jordyn Tyson injury: What it means for the Saints' offense

The rookie wide receiver suffered an injury to his right hamstring during a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, landing awkwardly after making a catch.

Coach Kellen Moore has yet to provide a definitive timeline for his return, but NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported yesterday that the first-rounder could miss "about two months".

Rapoport went on to discuss whether Tyson could land on IR and said, "Maybe it's week 5 or 6 that he ends up coming back."

Moore: "Nothing to do with Jordyn's history"

Tyson missed time in every year at college, including over a full year lost to a knee issue and hamstring problems in 2025.

Moore was careful to separate the latest issue from the hamstring trouble that limited Tyson at Arizona State.

"Any player that was put in his situation, where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind - this has nothing to do with Jordyn's history," he said.

"Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this."

He then went on to explain how he'll "know more in the next few days," after a full evaluation.

What Tyson's injury means for the Saints

Even if Rapport's timelines are confirmed, this should be nothing more than a short-term setback if Tyson returns fully healthy.

With that said, it's a real shame for a player who was performing well in training camp, and it will slow the rookie's learning curve.

Chris Olave will remain the focal point of the Tyler Shough-led offense, but behind him, the depth at wideout is relatively thin.

Devaughn Vele, who came on strong before suffering a shoulder injury in Week 15, will be leaned upon more heavily, and tight end Juwan Johnson could also see an uptick in targets.

Rookies Bryce Lance and Barion Brown could see more snaps, but they'll likely be feeding off scraps unless the top three miss any time.

Shough still profiles as a breakout candidate given how well he performed once he took over last year, but his ceiling drops slightly until Tyson returns.
