Kirk Cousins signs with Raiders as bridge to Mendoza

Quarterback Kirk Cousins will be donning the silver and black in 2026 after signing with the Las Vegas Raiders.
His agent and various NFL insiders reported the news on Thursday. Financial details are yet to emerge.
Cousins spent two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, but was cut loose this offseason. His latest move marks only his fourth team in a career spanning 14 years.
The timing and fit make sense. The Raiders hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and Fernando Mendoza is the overwhelming favourite to be their selection on April 23.
Klint Kubiak, who headed south to join Las Vegas as their new head coach after winning Super Bowl LX as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator, recently shared his reservations about throwing a rookie into a Week 1 starting role.
At 37, Cousins is nobody's long-term answer, but he knows how to run an NFL offense and has a history with Kubiak from his three years with him in Minnesota.
At this stage of his career, Cousins is the perfect bridge quarterback - capable enough to steady the ship, but not so dominant that he blocks the path of the player Las Vegas is building around.
The veteran announced himself to the fanbase in the best possible way, too, posting "The Autumn Wind..." on social media - a reference to the iconic poem that Raider Nation has been quoting for decades.
