Kyler Murray wowed by 'embarrassment of riches' on Vikings' offense

Signed in free agency after spending seven years with the Arizona Cardinals, the 27-year-old couldn't be any happier with his new landing spot.

Here's what he said about the "embarrassment of riches" on the Vikings' offense, the quarterback competition, and how he's living out his boyhood dream.

Murray lauds Vikings' skills group

"I don't know how you can't love that room," said an upbeat Murray after Wednesday's session.

"You look at the skill positions in general, I know it’s widely regarded as one of the most QB-friendly offenses around the league," he continued.

"I’m happy to be here. I’m looking around, it’s kind of an embarrassment of riches around here.”

Murray singled out some of the key players.

"Obviously, you've got the best receiver in the league [in Justin Jefferson] and then J.A. (Jordan Addison) and the guys, Jauan [Jennings], all the young guys who have the talent and ability that are hungry to go prove it."

Murray and McCarthy: Vikings' QB competition

Murray is in a battle with 2024 first-rounder J.J. McCarthy for the starting quarterback job, but he understands his role as the veteran.

"Obviously, I know he's a younger guy, so any way I can help him, obviously I'll ... give him any knowledge that he needs. We're both competitors, and I know we both want what's best for the team."

Murray knows that learning the new offensive playbook is paramount.

"It's really wordy, but I think it's just reps," he said. "Doing it over and over again at the house in the morning, on the way into the facility, on the way home, whatever it is. Whatever I need to do to get ready for the next day."

Murray on life as a Minnesota Viking

Hear him talk of how quickly he's settled in, and it seems Murray is taking it all in his stride.

"This is what I love to do. Ever since I was a little kid," he said. "Being out here with the guys in a new environment, getting acclimated to Minnesota and the system, and all the guys have been welcoming me. It's been great. It's been awesome."

Reflecting on his journey to this point, Murray acknowledges how he's landed on his feet.

"It's new territory for me," he said. "Obviously, things happen in the NFL, but now that I am here, I feel like you can't draw it up any better.

"I was a fan of the Vikings growing up and the fact that I'm here now … I can't wait to put the [game] jersey on."
