Eagles Lane Johnson on new-look offense: 'Damn, that looks pretty fun'

Not many players play 14 NFL seasons at the highest level. Lane Johnson has, which is exactly why his read on Philadelphia's offensive shift carries weight.
New Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion isn't a familiar name in the coaching ranks. He spent years as a backup quarterback, with stints with the Rams, Vikings and Seahawks, before moving into coaching.
And after starting out as an assistant in Green Bay in 2024, before becoming the quarterback coach in 2025, his coaching experience remains limited.
How the new scheme unfolds is not yet known, but Johnson is already bought in.
"I'm excited about this new system," he told former NFL players Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth on the Fitz & Whit podcast.
"I think it has some (Kyle) Shanahan implements in it. I think it will maybe be easier on the edge for Jordan (Mailata) and I," he continued.
"Maybe not as much isolation, and when you run some wide zone like the 49ers and the guy comes zone, you're not worried about it and keep going, I could get used to that," Johnson added.
"I'm excited, I've watched these offenses from afar and was like, 'damn, that looks pretty fun.'"
We’ll have to wait and see whether Mannion’s scheme actually delivers.
But for the Eagles, whose offense managed only 22.3 points per game in 2025 after scoring 27.2 in 2024, the fact that Johnson likes what he sees bodes well.
