Week 6 shook up the NCAA football landscape, and the ripple effects were felt in the Heisman race. Some contenders hit a new gear, others lost steam, and a handful stayed put while their teams rested.
Here’s how the frontrunners stack up now, and how the Heisman picture has shifted since last week.

The Ducks were on a bye last week, and other players narrowed the gap in Moore's absence. It would be unfair if we knocked him off the top spot, not least because his exceptional performance in the double-overtime thriller over Penn State isn’t fading from voters’ minds anytime soon.
After that game, Oregon coach Dan Lanning said, "I think we've got the best quarterback in college football." Right now, it's hard to argue otherwise.
Up next is an exciting showdown against Indiana. If Moore manages to lift his team to a win over #7 with another strong game, it will be hard for anyone to replace him in next week's rankings.
Beck’s four-touchdown effort against Florida State was arguably his finest performance of the year. Until that point, his rise has been steady rather than flashy. Now, he almost sits shoulder-to-shoulder with Moore in most Heisman conversations.
It may be difficult for Beck to significantly improve his Heisman credentials against Louisville, but assuming he doesn't have a stinker, he'll remain near the top of this list.
Simpson's contribution in the statement win over Vanderbilt keeps him in the hunt, as much for his prolific yardage as for his ability to overcome an early interception and deliver the win.
A huge matchup with Missouri presents Simpson with the perfect stage to make the case that he deserves an even higher ranking. Conversely, a poor performance could damage his placement. It makes the game must-watch TV, and you can follow how it unfolds right here on DAZN, live and free .
Smith continues to dominate opponents. He was overshadowed in catches and yardage by his teammate Carnell Tate on the road at Washington, but the effect he has on a game cannot be understated.
If Buckeyes' quarterback Julian Sayin continues to play at Big Ten Freshmen of the Week type levels, Smith should continue to produce highlight-reel worthy performances. Will it be enough to unseat the QBs ahead of him? Time will tell.
The gap between Mendoza and the rest is close, and on the surface, there was little about Mendoza's stat line against Iowa in Week 5 to suggest he had a great game. However, he made key throws when it mattered most and helped his team secure a win.
Oregon (#3), and Moore - our number one player in these rankings - await in Week 7. We'll know a lot more about both players following that epic clash. For now, and despite a Week 6 bye, Mendoza moves up to No. 5 after Vanderbilt’s Trinidad Chambliss delivered an uneven outing.
Chambliss' stock suffered a setback, losing ground to the leading contenders. It's a different story for Ohio State QB Sayin, who is making a strong push for consideration. The same can be said for Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy, who leads the nation with 730 rushing yards.
