Does the AJ Brown trade make Vrabel's Patriots Super Bowl LXI favourites?

The New England Patriots have had a busy offseason, with three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown the headline addition.
After going 14-3 last season and reaching Super Bowl LX, you might be surprised to learn that Mike Vrabel's team has worse odds to win Super Bowl LXI than a team that failed to even make the playoffs last year.
Here are the Patriots' current odds to win it all in 2026, provided by DAZN Bet, and my take on whether those odds truly reflect their offseason moves.

Patriots offseason moves evaluated
Despite boasting a talented roster, New England came into the offseason with a long list of priorities.
Drake Maye's favourite target last year, Stefon Diggs, was released in March, creating a huge void at receiver.
K’Lavon Chaisson vacated an already thin edge rusher room, and losing safety Jaylinn Hawkins temporarily downgraded the secondary.
Then there was the offensive line, much maligned after allowing Maye to be sacked six times in the Super Bowl loss to the Seahawks, and in dire need of upgrades.
GM Eliot Wolf got to work immediately, adding ex-Packers wideout Doubs, whom they thought of so highly that they handed him a four-year deal worth up to $80 million.
The bigger splash at receiver, of course, was the addition of three-time Pro Bowler Brown, who gives Maye a legitimate WR1 and an upgrade on Diggs.
Guard Alijah Vera-Tucker joined in free agency. He missed the 2025 season, but if he gets and remains healthy, he should be an upgrade after allowing only 16 pressures and four sacks in 2024.
Maye's protection also received a boost in the 2026 NFL Draft with Wolf's first-round pick Caleb Lomu, who has drawn rave reviews from Vrabel so far.
Other notable offseason additions include talented veteran safety Kevin Byard, versatile defensive lineman Dre'Mont Jones, and 2026 NFL Draft second-round edge rusher Gabe Jacas.
New England Patriots' Super Bowl LXI odds
The Patriots are priced at 16/1 on DAZN Bet to win Super Bowl LXI, with odds generally ranging between 14/1 and 18/1 with other bookmakers.
The Rams, Seahawks, Ravens, Bills, Chiefs all have shorter odds, while the Packers, Chargers, Eagles and 49ers are tied with New England at 16/1.
That puts New England firmly in contender territory rather than favourites, reflecting the strength of the field and reservations about the offensive line and pass rush.

Our verdict on the Patriots' Super Bowl LXI odds

The Patriots feel a little underestimated at 16/1.
Repeating as winners of the AFC East won't be easy, not while Josh Allen and the Bills are around, but Vrabel's group is firmly in the mix.
The Rams are deserved favourites at 6/1, with MVP Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua joined by the blockbuster defensive acquisitions of Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie and Co.
The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks seem fairly priced at 9/1 given the talent they boast at every level on the roster.
Those two aside, it's relatively easy to build a case that New England should perhaps be right in the mix with the Ravens and Bills at 10/1, and ahead of the Chiefs at 15/1.
Yes, there are question marks. Brown and Doubs will need time to build chemistry with Maye, but they're already hard at work and have the entire offseason to get on the same page.
And yes, the offensive line - and especially Will Campbell - must prove that they can put their 2025 playoff struggles behind them.
But this is a team with an ascending 23-year-old MVP-level quarterback, a suddenly impressive group of pass catchers, and a sneaky-good defense led by elite cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
If Vrabel can somehow shut out the noise of his turbulent offseason and keep his players focused, it would not be a surprise to see New England at least make a deep playoff run once again.
