Raiders 22 - 20 Texans

Fernando Mendoza, human after all

Mendoza failed to impress, finishing with 8-of-15 passing for 86 yards and an interception to Houston rookie Wade Woodaz.

His target was first-year back Mike Washington, but Woodaz stepped ahead of him before taking it 80 yards the other way.

While it was a disappointing performance, the young quarterback wasn't exactly set up for success while playing behind a makeshift offensive line that allowed pressure galore.

The hype train hasn't derailed, but it has slowed a little, a stark reminder that even the No. 1 overall pick will endure uneven weeks.

C.J. Stroud efficient in limited action

Stroud only played one drive, but he made the most of it, finishing 4-of-6 passing for 27 yards.

In his first appearance since the four-interception horror show against the Patriots in the playoffs, he marched Houston down the field on a 10-play, 69-yard opening drive.

Those numbers don't prove anything, but as he enters a prove-it year behind a reinforced offensive line, it's a start.

Woody Marks makes his case

After leading the Texans in rushing last year, Marks was relegated to RB2 duties following the offseason acquisition of David Montgomery.

But the young back reminded Houston what he can do last night, with four carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.

That score came on a 20-yard scamper as Marks shrugged off multiple arm tackles to find the end zone.

David Montgomery is still in line to dominate carries once the real games get underway, but Marks could still play a role.

The Raiders WR pecking order

Tre Tucker was among the projected Raiders' starters held out, which suggests he may still be ahead of Jalen Nailor.

The latter made an impressive 22-yard grab, but it remains to be seen whether it's enough to unseat Tucker.

Camp standout Malik Benson only managed to haul one of his five targets, but that could be enough to continue his ascension up the ranks with Dont'e Thornton Jr. still sidelined.

Jack Bech also featured, as did Noah Brown, but neither did much to improve their standing.
