Seahawks' $9.612bn sale sets new NFL record: Here's every team's valuation

The Khosla family are the buyers, fronted by Vinod Khosla, who built his name in Silicon Valley, co-founding Sun Microsystems in the 1980s before moving into venture capital and eventually starting Khosla Ventures.

"We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks," Khosla said in a statement issued through the team.

The numbers behind the deal

According to a league memo, Vinod's wife Neeru Khosla will become the Seahawks' controlling owner. Their son Neal Khosla will also play a role in the leadership team.

Vinod Khosla already owned a piece of the 49ers, which he bought last year alongside other local investors at an $8.5 billion valuation.

Exactly how big that 49ers stake was never really got confirmed, but the word going round the league had him down as the largest name in that investor group.

As part of the Seahawks' sale, he must now relinquish that stake in San Francisco because the NFL doesn't allow anyone to own two teams at once.

Sportico's 2025 rankings had Seattle valued at $6.59 billion, a number that always felt on the light side once takeover talk got serious.

Sales like this don't come around too often, and part of the reason it's so rare is that there's little incentive to sell, since revenue sharing keeps almost every team profitable to the tune of nine figures a year.

It therefore comes as little surprise that the eventual sale price cleared that valuation by around 46 per cent, a gap of over $3 billion.
