Seattle Seahawks to open NFL season on a Wednesday
The Seattle Seahawks will begin their Super Bowl title defense on a different day than usual.
The NFL announced on Wednesday, the 2026-27 season will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 9 in Seattle, which can be seen live on DAZN (excl. US and China).
The game shifted to Wednesday due to San Francisco 49ers facing the Los Angeles Rams in the first-ever NFL regular season game in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8:35pm ET.
The Seahawks’ Week 1 opponent will be announced when the full 2026 NFL regular season schedule is released later this spring.
The last time the NFL opened a season on a Wednesday night was back in the 2012 season between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. The game was moved to that day because the league didn't want to conflict with then-President Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention on that Thursday.
The Seahawks game is one of nine international games scheduled for the 2026-27 season. The 49ers will also be playing in another international game at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City this coming season.
