Stefon Diggs on Commanders rumours: 'It would be great to come home'

Complicating matters at the time was a pending trial on felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges, for which he was ultimately found not guilty in May.

Following the NFL's own investigation, which found insufficient evidence of a personal conduct policy violation, Diggs has shared which team he'd like to play for next.

A return to his hometown in Washington is his preference, and he says the Commanders fans also want him there.

"I never realised how many fans there were back home until I was a free agent, and people said, 'Are you gonna come back home?'" he told Fox 5 DC.

Diggs x2 to the Commanders?

Diggs grew up in Gaithersburg, played college football at the University of Maryland, and has never been shy about his connection to the DMV.

His brother Trevon, a cornerback and former Pro Bowler during his time with the Dallas Cowboys, is also a free agent.

Earlier this month, the pair were asked how long it would be before they were both in Commanders jerseys, and Stefon's response stoked the rumour mill.

"That's what everybody is talking about right now," he said. "We gonna talk about it real soon though."

What Diggs brings to Washington's offense

At 32, it's fair to wonder if Diggs' best days are behind him, but on the evidence of last year, he still has plenty to give.

Last season, he recorded 85 catches for 1,013 yards in an effort that marked the seventh 1,000-yard campaign of his career.

Showcasing his ability as one of the better route-runners in the league, he led the Patriots in both categories and helped them reach Super Bowl LX.

His four touchdowns were the lowest mark of his career, save for seasons when he missed multiple games, but it was a minor blemish on an otherwise impressive season.

Unless rookie Antonio Williams finds his feet early, Luke McCaffrey kicks on, or Dyami Brown shows something more, Washington's 2026 receiver room will start and end with veteran Terry McLaurin.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels is healthy again after a difficult 2025 season, and the Commanders need to give him more to work with.

Diggs, our No. 1 free agent, can win from the slot or on the outside, and is exactly the kind of short-to-intermediate option that could help make Dan Quinn's unit more dangerous in the ultra-competitive NFC East.
