Tennessee Titans 2026 NFL season preview: Cam Ward gets new weapons

The Tennessee Titans enter the 2026 NFL season with explosive new offensive weapons and a new scheme built around last year's No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.
Progress and a losing record aren't mutually exclusive for this roster, provided Ward and the reshaped defense keep developing and rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate lives up to the hype.

Titans: 2025 season in review
Tennessee started 1-11 and won only three games, finishing bottom of the AFC South for the third consecutive year.
It was a season of turmoil, their first under new general manager Mike Borgonzi, and one in which they replaced Brian Callahan with interim head coach Mike McCoy in October.
For all the upheaval, the most important takeaway was the late-season progression of then-rookie quarterback Cam Ward, whom the Titans selected first overall.
The young gunslinger entered the league with the arm talent and improvisational skills to become a star, but struggled to show it early on as he adapted to the pro level.
In the final month of the season, however, he began to play faster, avoid negative plays, and begin to show what made him such a coveted prospect.
On a roster short of star performers, Tony Pollard impressed, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the fourth year running.
Chimere Dike shone in the return game, and linebacker Cedric Gray enjoyed a breakout year, finishing fourth in the league with 164 tackles.
The real standout, however, was talented defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons, whose 11 sacks ranked first among all DTs league-wide.

Tate profiles as a big outside receiver who can immediately become the focal point of the passing game and stretch the field like no one else on the roster.
The 21-year-old is the latest in a long line of talented Ohio State wideouts, the sixth first-rounder from the same program in just the last five years.
Robinson is be a diminutive receiver at 5'8", but he enjoyed a breakout year for the Giants in 2025 and promises to carry over that form as the Titans' new slot option.
Daboll is tasked with doing what he did with Josh Allen in Buffalo: building an offense that plays to his quarterback's strengths and improving the success rate on third downs and in the red zone.
On defense, meanwhile, the Titans traded away man-mountain Sweat in exchange for former Jets edge Johnson, seemingly happy to take the hit on the interior to upgrade their pass rush on the outside.
The combined defensive acumen of Saleh and Bradley should bring about improvements to a unit that ranked 28th in points allowed in 2025.
There is finally a construction logic: young quarterback, complementary receivers, and a defensive front solid enough not to be chasing the score every week.

Titans: Key players in 2026
Cam Ward: The reason to watch Tennessee. His development over the next 3+ years will determine how this project ends.
Carnell Tate: The man drafted to become Ward's go-to target, and whose emergence could transform an offense still in the development phase.
Calvin Ridley / Wan'Dale Robinson: Ridley excels on out, dig, and nine routes; Robinson is a slot demon. Together, they give Ward two complementary pieces.
Tony Pollard / Tyjae Spears: Pollard comes off a 1,082-rushing-yard season while Spears profiles as the better option in the passing game. Don't be surprised if there's a more even split this year.
Peter Skoronski / JC Latham: The two young offensive line pillars must prevent Cam Ward's second season from being defined by interior pressure and long third downs.
Jeffery Simmons / Jermaine Johnson: The star defensive tackle, capable of destroying a run or generating immediate interior pressure, is now paired with an established edge. If Faulk hits early, the defensive front will be in good shape.
Cedric Gray / Anthony Hill: Gray should lead the team in tackles once again, while rookie Hill has the talent to replace Cody Barton down the stretch.
Alontae Taylor / Cor'Dale Flott: Two handsomely paid new arrivals whose production hasn't always matched their performances. Both must hit if Saleh's system is to thrive.
Amani Hooker / Kevin Winston: Hooker brings the experience, while Winston, tipped to enter the year as a starter for the first time, offers the ceiling.
Chimere Dike: Dike may surrender targets to the new wideouts, but as a returner, there are few better in the league.

What hurts opponents
The passing game's potential is markedly superior to that of 2025 if Ward continues to progress.
Tate is a huge upgrade at wideout, Robinson and Ridley are above-average complements, and the ground game has more depth with rookie Nicholas Singleton working behind Pollard and Spears.
On defense, Simmons and Franklin-Myers can push the pocket from the interior, and if Johnson gets back to his 2023 best, the defense could surprise.
The blind spot
Experience and the offensive line are question marks. A second-year quarterback operating within a new system alongside several young targets will make mistakes.
Left tackle Dan Moore and right guard Cordell Volson will need to have career years if the offense is to achieve its potential.
Titans: Latest training camp news
Ward has been described as clean and low on errors during the early sessions.
Wan'Dale Robinson has quickly built a strong connection with Ward, a good sign for a team with so many moving parts at the skill positions.
Alontae Taylor has generally impressed, but Cor'Dale Flott has struggled. It's still early for the former Giant, but he must turn the corner quickly.

Titans: The key question
Can Ward turn his improvisations into a complement rather than the primary plan? Daboll wants him to win before the snap, trigger on time, and only look for the exceptional play when the structure breaks down.
An improvement on first and second downs would do more for the record than a handful of extra highlights, but improving on third downs and in the red zone passes remain the priority.

Ward opens year two on home turf against a new-look Jets' defense, with the added intrigue of Saleh facing his former team.
One game will not reveal whether the Titans are on the path to becoming more competitive, but a win here would set the tone.
And while it may take time for some of Tennessee's newcomers to get acclimated to their surroundings, the same could be said for the overhauled Jets' roster, which evens the playing field somewhat.
This game may not attract the same attention as matchups involving more heralded teams, but for two franchises mid-rebuild, it means everything.
