McKenna eyes 'very lazy' Adames for middleweight unification bout
Shields vs. Scott live on DAZN - Saturday

Aaron McKenna is eyeing a middleweight unification showdown with Carlos Adames, accusing the star of "hiding for a long time".

The Irish star earned his stripes over the weekend with a comfortable win over Etinosa Oliha to become IBF champion in Dublin.

Not content to rest on his laurels, the star is already turning his attention to cleaning up the rest of the division's leading lights too.

One man in his sights is WBC belt holder Adames - and having faced him in training before, McKenna believes he can topple him.

"He's a guy that's been hiding for a long time," he was quoted by Boxing Scene. "I sparred him a lot in Robert Garcia's gym [at] 19.

"He didn't like me at all in sparring. He's a very lazy fighter. When you put it on him, he doesn't want to know after a few rounds."

McKenna further suggested that middleweight has lacked a unifying force since the days of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

"I said it years ago, I'm going to be the man to take over," he added on chasing a potential sweep. "No-one really believed me [then].

"Until you put in performances like that, then they start listening. In life you've got to prove yourself sometimes, and I've done that."

Adames has fought just once since a February 2025 draw with Hamzah Sheeraz, scoring a March victory over Austin Williams.
