Callum Smith vs. John Ryder: Date, time, price, odds and how to watch the fight

It's not the big fight Callum Smith was looking for, but it's an opportunity to continue to grow as he puts the WBA (super) super middleweight championship on the line against fellow Englishman John Ryder on Saturday, Nov. 23 from Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

Smith (26-0, 19 KOs) made himself into a household name in 2018 by plowing through the World Boxing Super Series, punctuated by a seventh-round knockout of George Groves in September of last year to win the Muhammad Ali trophy and the WBA belt, establishing himself as one of the top super middleweights in the world.

Smith last competed back in December on the Canelo Alvarez-Rocky Fielding undercard, where he pummeled Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam via third-round TKO to successfully defend the title for the first time. The 29-year-old has been looking to secure bouts with either Alvarez, IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin or WBO super middleweight titleholder Billy Joe Saunders. One of the reasons those fights haven't come to fruition is the fact the WBA mandated that Smith defend the championship against Ryder.

The 31-year-old Ryder (28-4, 16 KOs) earned the title opportunity by winning four consecutive fights, all by stoppage, since his loss to Fielding in April 2017. Ryder knows the plans that lie ahead for Smith and is using that as fuel to spring the upset this weekend.

"I'm being overlooked, but he is the world champion and the city's big dream of a show at Anfield," said Ryder. "He is the front-runner, but I'm coming to cause the upset and, if I beat Smith, there will be no Anfield show. They might need to find a new headliner."

Here’s a complete guide to Callum Smith vs. John Ryder.
