Dave Allen has an early win ahead of Saturday's heavyweight clash with Croatia's Filip Hrgovic.Â
The pair will meet at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium, live on DAZN, in what is a homecoming for Allen.Â
In the build-up, Allen has made no secret that he has fully committed himself to training camp and even made a £50,000 bet with his training team that he would come under 18 stone at Friday's weigh-in.
Â
Â
Hitting the scales before the ceremonial weigh-in, Allen delivered on his promise and registered 17 stone and 10lbs, and as a result will be £50,000 richer.Â
"Just weighed in 17 stone 10lbs, my lightest weight in over 7 years, see you all at the ceremonial weigh in Donny market place 5pm," Allen wrote when confirming the news on his Instagram.
The fact Allen has come in at his lightest weight for seven years shows he is taking this Hrgovic bout seriously, and he has to.Â
Not only is Hrgovic a world class opponent, Allen will also want to not humiliate himself in front of the thousands set to pack out the home of Doncaster FC.
Allen has been frank about his route to victory, and it's not by knockout.Â
Instead, he thinks taking Hrgovic the distance and winning on the scorecards will be his best bet.Â
If Allen is to take 'El Animal' the distance, then he needs to be conditioned to go the full 10-round distance, and this weight will go a long way in his attempts to do that.
Dave Allen is back in Doncaster to face Filip Hrgovic in a heavyweight showdown this Saturday, May 16. Watch exclusively on DAZN with your subscription. Monthly and annual options available.
