Hearn ready for Australian takeover as Nicolson leads new frontier

Eddie Hearn has promised to light the match on "the most exciting time ever in Australian boxing" as Matchroom Boxing kick off a new era this April in Melbourne.
Skye Nicolson and Teremoana Teremoana will headline a slate of domestic superstars as the promotion aims to build on a blockbuster era for the sport down under.
The WBC interim super-bantamweight champion will face Mariah Turner in the main event at a Melbourne Pavilion showcase for domestic talent, set for April 29.
Meanwhile, the heavyweight breakout will tackle an as-yet-unknown opponent following on from his bout with Curtis Harper in Orlando next weekend.
The card, which also features a super-lightweight clash between Jake Wyllie and Ibrahim Balla, marks the start of a new deal between Matchroom and domestic broadcaster Foxtel.
Speaking with Fox Sports Australia, Hearn professed his delight to help bring a new generation of antipodean talent to a global audience, and vice versa, over the coming years.
"We pride ourselves at Matchroom Boxing on being the only true global, promotional company in the world," he said. "We cannot wait to get this new, seven shows-a-year partnership with Fox Sports started.
“We have a great chance to really get our teeth into what I believe is the most exciting time ever for Australian boxing and can't wait to stage many major events here in what promises to be a big year.”

Eddie Hearn isn't wrong when he says Australian boxing looks to be in the rudest health it has seen for some time, with plenty of power and guile.
Jai Opetaia's future may be in murkier waters, but the star remains an undisputed powerhouse at cruiserweight - and there's plenty on his heels.
Skye Nicolson has already been world champion once, and will bid to mount another full bid this year as she eyes Ellie Scotney or Mayelli Flores.
Teremoana Teremoana is being tipped at home and abroad to make some heavyweight waves, following after New Zealand star Joseph Parker.
It certainly appears that the sport's domestic scene is in rude health back home - and now Hearn can further chart a new frontier in 2026 too.
