I lost in the first round to Fabio Wardley - Here is my verdict on his fight with Daniel Dubois

In 2024, Clarke, the 2020 Olympic medallist, became the first man to put a dent on Wardley’s record after holding him to a draw in a thrilling battle where he had to climb off the canvas to save the result. 

In an immediate rematch, Clarke had no answer for Wardley’s attacks as he was stopped in the opening round as he endured the first loss of his career . 

Since that setback, Clarke has suffered further defeats against Jamie TKV when trying to win the British title and also taking on Justis Huni earlier this year.

 

 

Despite the losses, Clarke did show a marked improvement with Joe Gallagher in his corner against Huni, and he is expected to continue his career as he looks to march up the heavyweight rankings. 

Still an ardent observer in the division he operates in, Clarke was watching his former rival take on Daniel Dubois this past weekend in a thrilling battle that saw the latter win in the fight’s penultimate round. 

Wardley had floored Dubois twice in the fight’s early stages, but Dubois rallied to secure victory in what is certain to be the 2026 fight of the year. 

“Well done Daniel Dubois. Fabio Wardley, absolute warrior,” said Clarke when speaking to Seconds Out.

“It wasn’t the most skilled heavyweight fight I’ve ever seen but it was just what the fans wanted to see. The fans wanted that, it was blood and guts but well done Daniel Dubois.”
