Gabriela Fundora’s encore for becoming the youngest undisputed world champion in boxing history in 2024 was defending her crown via knockout twice last year.
On Saturday night, ‘Sweet Poison’ returns to the ring to defend her undisputed flyweight titles against Viviana Ruiz Corredor at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and live on DAZN. The bout will be part of the main card headlined by Arnold Barboza Jr. vs. Kenneth ‘Bossman’ Sims.
At 23, Fundora (17-0, 9 KOs) has tallied three straight stoppage victories including the pair of seventh-round TKOs she produced against Marilyn Badillo in April and Alexas Kubicki in September. She faces a Ruiz Corredor (10-2, 5 KOs) who earned a split decision over Maria Magdalena Rivera in her sole ring appearance of 2025.
Will Fundora once again assert her dominance with a third defense of her undisputed flyweight crown? Or will Ruiz Corredor, who is 20 years Fundora’s senior, shock the boxing world with a grand upset? DAZN News examines who has the edge between the champ and challenger.
Standing 5-foot-8, Gabriela Fundora keeps her lead foot wide and looks to find a home with her straight left hand from the outside, using every bit of her 69 inches of reach.
‘Sweet Poison’ is more than capable of controlling the distance and winning fights from there, but can also punish opponents on the inside in a trait similar to her brother and WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora.
That style will be up against the sweet science of Viviana Ruiz Corredor who works diligently to piece together combinations in the pocket.
She will need to get inside of Fundora’s jab as Ruiz Corredor surrenders six inches of height and seven inches of reach to the champ.
At 23, Fundora is growing into her power, producing three straight knockout victories. The undisputed flyweight queen overwhelms opponents in volume which only adds to the oomph that her punching power packs.
She gets the nod here too and it is not close.
Fundora’s smile outside of the rings quickly turns into a scowl once she’s inside it.
Fundora’s incessant output in the way she is able to drown opponents with punches has her brimming with confidence.
At 43, Ruiz Corredor will have the urgency to maximize her opportunity. However, the zone Fundora is in will have her difficult to dethrone.
It is Fundora’s time and she is demonstrating that with every chance she gets. The undisputed flyweight world champion has thoroughly decimated this division and has the edge here, 3-0, according to DAZN News. It is hard to fathom anything but another dominant showing.
