Cordina withdrawn from Mason title bout after assault charge

Joe Cordina has withdrawn from his WBO lightweight title bout with Abdullah Mason after he was charged with assault.
The Welshman, an ex-super-featherweight champion, revealed earlier this week that he had been denied a visa to travel to the United States.
Now, South Wales Police have confirmed that the star and another man have been charged in connection with an incident last February.
"Joseph Cordina, 34, from Pontprennau, has been charged with assault and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place," said an official statement.

"He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on July 7."
Cordina had hoped to earn two-weight champion status, having lost his IBF crown at super-featherweight to Anto Cacace in 2024.
He is also a former British and Commonwealth lightweight champion, and represented Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Mason won the vacant WBO crown last November in a thrilling encounter with Sam Noakes, and had been due to make his first defence in Cleveland.
