Leigh Wood takes revenge against Mauricio Lara to become world champion again

Earlier this year, Lara travelled to Nottingham to dethrone Wood, but the Mexican lost his title at the fight’s weigh in when he arrived at the venue almost 4lbs overweight. 

With the belt only the line for Wood, he made no mistake in his quest to reclaim it and he got his night off to a great start by dropping Lara in the second round.  

A well-timed uppercut from Wood floored Lara and the shot gave Wood the platform to build a dominant lead just like he did in the original contest. 

This time around, there was no comeback from Lara as he had no answer to the Wood’s superior skillset.  

At the end of 12 one-sided rounds, Wood was declared the winner with scores in his favour of 118-109 x 2, and 116-111.  

The Nottingham favourite can now look forward to a potential stadium fight with Josh Warrington later this year.
