Michael Conlan names featherweight champions in crosshairs

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Michael Conlan still has serious world title ambitions.
Conlan (20-3, 10 KOs) is back in Belfast for his next bout on Friday, March 20, when he faces unbeaten American Kevin Walsh (19-0, 10 KOs) at the SSE Arena, live on DAZN.
At 34, the Northern Irishman knows he can’t afford any more slip-ups if he’s to win a title before he retires but he insists he is more motivated than ever.
MF ProThe featherweight contender has decided to go down the WBC route with a hope of facing their champion, Bruce Carrington, but he is keeping his option opens when it comes to chasing belts.
“You’ve got to look towards everybody, no matter who they are,” he told The Ring . "All the champions in the division, I don't mind fighting any of them.
"I want to be a world champion. To be a world champion, you’ve got to beat these type of guys. [Brandon] Figueroa's there. I’m going down the WBC route at the minute.
"I like the Carrington fight too. They’re fights that I’d love to have and if I can get the opportunity to face either of them, [then it is] happy days.”
Carrington recently won the vacant belt with an impressive stoppage of Carlos Castro, while Figueroa upset Nick Ball in Liverpool to claim the WBA strap.
There is also the unbeaten Rafael Espinoza, who holds the WBO belt, and the IBF ruler Angelo Leo too, for Conlan to aim at.
The featherweight division is always a hot one and the current climate is no exception, but Conlan doesn’t want any easy touches and he would relish the challenge of another world title shot.
He continued: “It's always strong. Featherweight is one of them divisions where it's always hot.
“There’s never really any easy touches in the featherweight division, I think I'd be fair enough to say that. It's just a division which has always been like that.
“You always have big, hard fights that people don't want to take and I'm now in a position where I can take these types of fights so I'm happy enough."
