Ryan Garcia admits he can’t afford a third career defeat this weekend.
‘King Ry’ challenges Mario Barrios for his WBC welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, live on DAZN PPV.
Garcia was beaten for the second time when outpointed by Rolly Romero in May and admits he can’t afford another defeat.
In an exclusive interview with DAZN, Garcia revealed why this is a must-win fight for him.
“Three losses, that’s like f-ck. You’re just a complete loser now,” he explained.
‘Two is like, damn, but three is definitely a complete loser. I don’t like that third loss, so I am giving it everything I’ve got.”
When asked if it was the biggest fight of his career at this point, Garcia was quick to reply: “For sure, 100%. More stakes, everything is just right on this world championship fight. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
The 27-year-old American also gave some insight on the reasons for his below-par showing against Romero last time out.
Garcia was dropped on his way to a comfortable unanimous decision defeat and insists his preparation was all wrong for that contest in New York.
He continued: “There are many things that went wrong. In the fight, it’s really what is happening before the fight.
“I think it was very forced, it was a forced fight on me. You could see that in my demeanour, how I was at the press conferences [and] in training.
“It was just hard to get my body caught up to be ready for a fight, and my mind.
“It was just one of those nights where you knew that it just wasn’t going to be your night. I accepted that, I made a commitment to fight anyway and I did it.
“I went in there knowing I wasn’t at my best.”
