Sergey Kovalev sued for failing to make payments in assault settlement

Former three-time light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev is being sued over an alleged non-payment of a previously agreed settlement from a lawsuit.

Jamie Frontz is suing Kovalev for failing to complete a $650,000 settlement that stemmed from an alleged assault back in June of 2018. Frontz claims that Kovalev only paid a portion of the agreed-upon amount and has ceased payment. Frontz didn't disclose how much she's seeking from Kovalev beyond having her legal fees covered and punitive damages. TMZ Sports was the first to report the story.

Initially, Frontz sued Kovalev for $8 million for what allegedly took place but she claims that she'd withdraw the case after coming to a confidential agreement with the 36-year-old in which he would pay $650,000 in three separate installments. Frontz says Kovalev paid her the first payment of $250,000 in October and hasn't given her anything since.

Frontz accused Kovalev of punching her in the face and breaking her nose at her cabin in Big Bear, Calif. She alleges that she turned down Kovalev's advances at a party and left the scene to head back to her cabin and Kovalev and a friend followed her back. Frontz also claims she suffered a severely broken nose, a concussion and a displaced disk in her neck. After an investigation, Kovalev was charged in January 2019 with felony assault with a deadly weapon. He has pled not guilty to the ongoing case. If convicted, Kovalev faces up to four years in prison.

Kovalev (34-4-1, 29 KOs) last fought in November when he suffered a 11th-round knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez. He reportedly made around $10 million for the bout. It is unknown when he will return to the ring.
