Tyson Fury claimed a split decision victory over Francis Ngannou on Saturday in a fight that was a lot closer than many would've expected.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou was making his professional boxing debut against Fury, the current WBC heavyweight titleholder, and managed to register a third-round knockdown of "The Gypsy King."
Ngannou rode that shocking moment to a good overall performance as he went the distance with Fury, and just a single point was the difference between the men when the judges' scorecards were tallied.
The impressive nature of Ngannou's boxing debut called Fury's preparedness for the fight into question, but former undisputed world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis believes Fury did enough to win the bout.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Lewis explained that he thought Ngannou wasn't aggressive enough to earn the victory.Â
"I thought Fury won the fight, but then again, I’m also of the contingency that you have to TAKE the title from the champ," Lewis wrote. "Aside from the knockdown, Ngannou just looked to counter all night.
"Call me old school but, that’s just not enough in my book unless u stop him."
