Superior Choice out to add to reputation at Hamilton

John and Thady Gosden have given Superior Choice the chance to enhance his growing reputation in Scotland on Friday evening when he heads to Hamilton for the British Stallion Studs EBF Glasgow Stakes.

Owned by Ace Stud, the son of Dubawi followed up a Leicester maiden victory that has worked out well by doubling his tally in a Newmarket novice event the Clarehaven team have won with some useful operators down the years, including St Leger hero Logician in 2019.

The three-year-old will now bid for a hat-trick as he steps up to both in trip and class for a race won by the likes of Coronation Cup winner Defoe (2017), Gold Cup hero Subjectivist (2020) and high-class mare Kalpana (2024) in recent years and it was claimed 12 months ago by the Gosdens with Nahraan.

Paul Curran, racing and bloodstock manager for the owners, said: “He’s a nice horse and we’ve got some nice entries for him later in the year. We’ll probably end up going further with him and he’s heading in the right direction.

“We think a hell of a lot about him and he’s by Dubawi as well so I think he’s one to keep on the radar and could make into a very nice horse with time.”

Another talented colt amongst the Ace Stud ranks set for a step up in grade soon is Karl Burke’s unbeaten Collateral Damage after he made it two from two under a penalty at Sandown recently.

“He’s probably going to be another one to step into black type races soon as well,” continued Curran.

“He did it nicely at Sandown and is two from two and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do.

“There’s a little bit of the unknown about him still and we’ll probably test him out in a Listed race sometime soon and he’s been surprising us a little bit with the way he is doing it.

“He’s a bit of a boy at home but he’s put his best foot forward when going racing and has won both starts. The more racing he gets I think the better he will be and he’s a nice prospect. We don’t know how good he could be but we’ll try to find out soon enough.”
