Touleen could make trial appearance for Burrows

Owen Burrows is likely to run Touleen in a trial to weigh up her possibilities of seeing out a mile in the Betfred 1000 Guineas.

The Lope De Vega filly won over seven furlongs last season at Newbury and Leicester before suffering defeat for the first time in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.

Burrows is now thinking of a trial ahead of the Guineas to see if she is Classic material, given she coped dirty after Newmarket.

He said: “She’s good I’m happy with her. We’re potentially thinking of giving her a trial before the Guineas but we’ll just see where we are in another 10 days.

“We’ve got (Shadwell racing manager) Angus (Gold) coming down next week but it’s so bitterly cold at the moment and it’s tough for the fillies. She’s in a good space and we’ll just play it by ear.

“She’s a Lope De Vega so she should get a mile. Obviously the dam (Talaayeb) was a little tricky. She was by Dansili and you could argue that she didn’t quite see out the trip in the Guineas. She won the City of York over seven furlongs so we’ll keep an open mind but she should be fine at a mile.”

Burrows hopes Raaheeb, a full-brother to Baaeed and Hukum, can learn quickly ahead of a potential shot at the Derby.

The Sea The Stars colt won on his only start at Ascot in September and could be looking at Sandown to make his seasonal debut.

Burrows added: “He won nicely at Ascot and he’s had a nice break after that. He’s in full work now and we’re happy with him. He has a Derby entry and he’s going to have to learn quite quickly. He should be ready soon, we’re possibly thinking of Sandown, the Classic Trial. There’s obviously Chester as well so we’ll see.

“He’ll tell us then if he’s ready for the Derby. He does lack a bit of experience so whether or not everything will come a bit quick time will tell.

“He’s worked on the grass the last month and that’s more than he ever did last year before he ran. He’d only ever been on the grass once before he went to Ascot so we’ve had a much more routine preparation with him at the moment.”
