Colorado Avalanche's Cale Makar suffers upper body injury vs. Calgary Flames

All-world defenseman Cale Makar had to be taken out of the game during the second period of the Avalanche's 9-2 win against the Calgary Flames due to what was classified as an upper-body injury.

Before suffering the injury late in the second period, Makar already had three assists and two shots on goal in 17:15 of action. The assists pushed Makar to 75 points (20 goals, 55 assists) for the season. It is still unknown how long Makar will be out of action.

The Avalanche's win gives them a 49-14-10 record with an NHL-leading 108 points. Colorado is eight points ahead of the Dallas Stars, who they play on Saturday.

If Makar does have to miss any time, it would significantly hurt the Avalanche's chances to come out of the Western Conference and compete for the Stanley Cup.
