The No. 1 seeds in the Eastern and Western Conference had no problems on Thursday evening. In the East, the Carolina Hurricanes beat he eighth-seeded Ottawa Senators 2-1 to go up 3-0 in the series. After the Senators tied the game early in the second period, 83 seconds later Jackson Blake scored for the top seed to put them one game away from the second round.
Game four will be contested on Saturday, with the Hurricanes looking to clinch the series.
In the West, the Colorado Avalanche easily dispatched the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 to also go 3-0 in the series. Four different players scored goals for the President's Cup winner with Gabriel Landeskog, Cale Makar, Artturi Lehkonen, and Brock Nelson lighting the lamp for the Avs.
The Avalanche will attempt to close out the series on Sunday.
Another game took place in the East as the Sabres took a 2-1 series lead over the Bruins with a 3-1 victory. The game was even at one heading into the third period when Alex Tuch scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 4:03 mark.
Game four takes place on Sunday in Boston.
