NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Results: Avalanche shake things up and control the Wild to take 3-1 lead

Monday's sole game delivered a shift in the standings and in lineups, putting the top seed in the West now one step closer to the Conference Finals. 

Avalanche dominate Wild to take commanding series lead

The Colorado Avalanche didn't let their 5-1 Game 3 loss get to them. They showed why they're the best team in the NHL by changing up their lineup, including the goalie, as five different players scored goals to win Game 4, 5-2. The Avalanche are up 3-1 in the series.

Avalanche coach Jared Bednar decided to go with Mackenzie Blackwood in net over Scott Wedgewood. It paid dividends as Blackwood made 19 saves on 21 shots. Bednar also just had to adjust his lines on forward lines and defense pairings, with defenseman Sam Malinski and winger Artturi Lehkonen being ruled out less than 30 minutes before game time. 

"We knew there was going to be a push [by the Wild] at some point, but even through that, I liked their attention to detail," Bednar said after the game. "The biggest change from the last game and this game is that we were a more determined group. That's to a man. Just more determined and committed to playing the right way."

The Avalanche look to close out the series with Game 5 on Wednesday in Denver.
