He failed to win the final against Gadzhi Rabadanov last year, but this year Brent Primus is determined to win the PFL World Lighweights Tournament.

The way the tournament is set up, Primus could meet Rabadanov in the final again this year, which suits the 40-year-old fine.

"Good news. I want to fight him in the States," Primus told DAZN News ahead of the competition, which is being held in Orlando, Florida. "I found out the finals are in the United States this year, so I want that fight back. I want it so bad. I have no excuses, but when I fought him, when we fought last [in Saudi Arabia], I was so exhausted.

"I could not get used to the time zone in Saudi Arabia, and I only went there six days before we fought. I was a complete zombie, I felt, when I fought him. I also tore my knee before I fought him. I want to fight him healthy and in good shape in the United States, and I'll be ready this time."

In particular, Primus revealed that he wanted to withdraw from that fight, a decision that was abandoned at the last minute.

"When I fought him last time, I tore my knee two months before that fight, and I couldn’t bend my knee. I couldn't shoot takedowns, I couldn't kick. I was going to back out of that fight. Then I had a surgeon who was like, 'Don't back out of the fight. I will drain your knee every Friday.' He was giving me plasma shots. It was just horrible."

This time, Primus could fight Rabadanov in his home country and at 100% health. He feels that those factors could help him win.

"When I fought him [the first time], I literally couldn't shoot takedowns or kick," he said. "I was just boxing. So now, the next time I fight him, it's going to be different. It's going to be the full me. I'm going to be able to wrestle, I'm going to be able to kick. It’s going to be different. I promise you that."
