Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has confirmed his long-awaited return to MMA.
Ngannou has not fought inside a cage since beating Renan Perreira for the PFL's super fights heavyweight title 17 months ago in Riyadh.
After leaving the PFL last week, Ngannou has been snapped up by Jake Paul's promotion, MVP, and is set to fight on the undercard of Rondan Rousey vs. Gina Carano.
The man set to face Ngannou on May 16 is Brazil's Philipe Lins.
Lins is a seasoned fighter, and after winning the PFL's heavyweight tournament in 2018, he moved to the UFC to compete at light heavyweight.
The Brazilian put together a four fight win streak between 2022 and 2024 before being released by the organisation.
This heavyweight contest will serve as the co-main event to Rousey vs. Carano which will be broadcast live on Netflix.
While fans were concerned about Ngannou's prolonged absence in the cage, he has claimed this comeback is the start of a new chapter in his MMA career.
With the heavyweight division across MMA in a weird state of limbo, Ngannou is ready to re-introduce himself to the sport as a serious, and destructive force.
"While the world was busy talking, I was busy evolving,” Ngannou said in a statement.
“Silence shouldn't be mistaken for absence—it’s the sound of a predator closing the distance. Stepping back into the cage isn’t just a return; it’s a reclamation.
"My return to MMA demanded a stage that matched the scale of my ambition, and partnering with MVP to bring this event to Netflix ensures the entire world is watching.
"I am ready for this new chapter, and I cannot wait to entertain my fans again and remind the world exactly who I am and what I am capable of delivering on a highest stage. #TheComeBack”
