The FIM World Supercross Championship returns this weekend for what promises to be its biggest season yet.
Now entering its fifth season under promoter SX Global, the championship continues its global expansion with a record six-round calendar spanning five continents, beginning in Calgary, Canada, on August 8 before concluding in Christchurch, New Zealand, on December 5.
Reigning SX1 champion Jason Anderson returns with a target on his back after finally lifting his first World Supercross crown in 2025, while Britain's Max Anstie begins his quest for a third SX2 world title against another stacked field of international talent.
With former AMA Supercross champions, rising stars and new teams all joining the fight, the 2026 campaign looks set to deliver another season of spectacular stadium racing.
What happened in 2025?
Last season produced one of the closest SX1 title battles in FIM World Supercross history.
Jason Anderson clinched his maiden world championship after winning the final two Grands Prix of the season, edging Joey Savatgy by just five points after a dramatic finale in Cape Town. Christian Craig completed an all-American top three, underlining the strength of the premier-class field.
The SX2 championship proved more one-sided, with Max Anstie dominating throughout the campaign. The British rider claimed eight race victories on his way to a second world title, finishing comfortably clear of Shane McElrath to establish himself as the rider to beat heading into 2026.
The season also marked the first full year of the championship's current three-race format and saw electric manufacturer Stark Future become an established presence on the grid.
Who are the title favourites?
Jason Anderson begins the season as the man everyone has to beat after finally converting years of contention into a maiden FIM World Supercross title.
However, the American faces no shortage of challengers. Joey Savatgy came within five points of the championship last season, while Christian Craig returns after another consistent campaign. Former AMA Supercross champion Cooper Webb joins the championship on a full-time basis after previous wildcard appearances, with Dean Wilson, Luke Clout and Justin Hill all capable of fighting for race wins throughout the season.
Another fascinating storyline is Stark Future, which continues to develop its all-electric motorcycle with Jorge Zaragoza leading the Spanish manufacturer's challenge against the established factories.
In the lower powered SX2 CATEGORY, Max Anstie starts the season as the clear favourite after a dominant 2025 campaign and will be aiming to make it three FIM World Supercross titles.
The Briton is expected to face stiff competition from Cameron McAdoo, Brodie Connolly, Jake Cannon and Calvin Fonvieille, while the expanded calendar means consistency across all six rounds will be more important than ever.
