Lando Norris forms new junior racing team to develop future F1 stars

The reigning Formula 1 world champion has launched LN4 Fusion, which will begin competing across some of Europe's leading junior categories in 2027.

The operation will have teams in Italian F4, the FIA Formula Regional European Championship and Formula 3, while work is also underway towards future entries in British F4 and Formula 2.

It means Norris will now have a direct involvement in the same junior racing ladder he once climbed on his way to becoming a Formula 1 driver and world champion.

Alongside the new team, Norris has also launched the LN4 Legacy Programme, a fully funded driver development initiative designed to give talented young racers the support they need to progress through motorsport.

LN4 Fusion is a new multi-championship junior single-seater team co-founded by Norris.

The operation will make its competitive debut in 2027, with confirmed programmes in Italian F4, Formula Regional and Formula 3.

LN4 Fusion is also already running a British F4 testing programme as it works towards a future entry in the championship, while an application has been made for participation in Formula 2.

Selected assets from AIX Racing have been acquired by the new operation, including its Formula 3 entry for the 2027 season.

The ambition is therefore much bigger than simply establishing a team in one junior championship.

Instead, LN4 Fusion wants to create a pathway across the single-seater ladder where young drivers can develop as they attempt to progress towards Formula 1.

Norris has spoken about the importance of the support he received during his own journey through motorsport and wants to help provide similar opportunities to the next generation.

"I've been really lucky to have some amazing people around me throughout my career, and I know that getting to Formula 1 takes so much more than just talent," Norris said.

"You need the right people around you, the right support and the right opportunities at the right time.

"LN4 Fusion is about building a race team that can compete with the best in junior motorsport, with great people and a great environment for drivers to develop.

"I want to help create opportunities for the next generation, both on and off the track, and hopefully make a real difference to young drivers coming through the sport."

Norris knows that pathway particularly well.

Before reaching Formula 1 with McLaren, the Briton progressed through the junior single-seater categories himself, including Formula 4, Formula Renault, Formula 3 and Formula 2.

He has now reached the very top of the sport, winning the Formula 1 world championship in 2025.

What is the LN4 Legacy Programme?

Norris' involvement in developing young drivers will extend beyond those racing for LN4 Fusion.

The separate LN4 Legacy Programme has been created to identify talented drivers who may not otherwise have the financial backing or support required to progress through motorsport.

Successful drivers will receive funding alongside coaching, mentoring, performance support and career guidance.

Norris has described Formula 1 as the ultimate ambition for the programme, although the wider objective is to give drivers the opportunity to discover how far their talent can take them.

The programme tackles one of the biggest barriers facing young racing drivers, with the cost of progressing through karting and the junior single-seater ladder capable of ending careers before they have truly begun.

Why is Formula 4 important for future F1 drivers?

Formula 4 represents one of the first major steps on the single-seater ladder for drivers graduating from karting.

It is where some of the world's most promising teenagers begin learning the skills required to compete in increasingly powerful single-seater machinery before potentially progressing into Formula Regional, Formula 3 and Formula 2.

Norris himself competed in Formula 4 early in his career, winning the MSA Formula Championship in Britain in 2015 before continuing his rapid progression towards F1.

Other current Formula 1 stars also raced in F4 during their junior careers, making the category one of the first opportunities for fans to see drivers who could eventually reach the highest level of motorsport.

While Norris prepares to enter the junior single-seater ladder as a team owner, the next generation of potential Formula 1 talent is already competing across Formula 4.

The F4 Spanish Championship is one of Europe's leading entry-level single-seater series and gives young drivers the opportunity to establish themselves before attempting to progress further up the motorsport ladder.

Some of the most exciting young prospects in European racing are competing in the 2026 championship, with the battle at the front featuring the likes of Kasper Schormans, Borys Lyzen, Andrej Petrovic, Noah Monteiro and Rocco Coronel.
