The NHL Stanley Cup Finals are finally upon us with the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes battling for professional hockey's richest prize.
Vegas has now reached the Stanley Cup Finals for the third time in nine seasons, when they swept the Presidents' Cup Trophy winners and one of the greatest regular-season teams in NHL history, the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals.
For the Golden Knights, they look to win their second Stanley Cup. In their inaugural season in 2018, Vegas reached the Finals but came up short against the Washington Capitals. However, things changed in 2023 when the Golden Knights beat the Florida Panthers to win their first Stanley Cup.
This run has been different for Vegas. They fired Bruce Cassidy and hired John Tortorella on March 30. Two months later, they are now in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Standing in the way of a second Stanley Cup are the Hurricanes, who have gone 12-1 in the postseason and will be making their third appearance in the championship round. It's the first time Carolina has been to the Stanley Cup Finals since the 2006 season when they won it all, defeating the Edmonton Oilers. Back in 2002, the Hurricanes came up short against the Detroit Red Wings.
