A new chapter in one of sailing's most famous competitions begins on Tuesday as The Ocean Race Atlantic takes to the water for the first time.
Six of the world's leading offshore sailing teams will race from New York City to Lorient, France, in a high-speed sprint across the North Atlantic, with some of the sport's leading sailors competing aboard foiling IMOCA boats.
The inaugural race also marks a historic first for The Ocean Race, with every four-person racing crew featuring two men and two women under a new mandatory 50/50 rule.
Fans around the world can follow the action live and for free on DAZN, with coverage beginning from New York on September 1.

What is The Ocean Race Atlantic?

The Ocean Race Atlantic is a new point-to-point competition from the organisers of The Ocean Race, the famous round-the-world sailing competition first held in 1973.
Rather than racing around the globe, The Ocean Race Atlantic sends the fleet on a single transatlantic sprint from New York City to Lorient on the west coast of France.
The approximately 3,000-nautical-mile route will take the teams across the North Atlantic, with the fleet racing through the Gulf Stream as they search for the quickest route towards Europe.
It will provide a major test of speed, strategy and endurance, with crews having to balance outright performance against changing weather conditions, navigation, fatigue and the reliability of their boats.
The fleet is expected to reach Lorient around September 8-9, although conditions across the Atlantic will ultimately determine when the first boats arrive in France.
Which teams are competing in The Ocean Race Atlantic?
Six teams will take part in the inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Atlantic:

- Team Francesca Clapcich Powered by 11th Hour Racing
- United by the Ocean
- DMG MORI Sailing Team
- Embrace The Challenge
- MSIG Europe
The fleet brings together experienced offshore racers from around the world, while two new-generation IMOCA boats will also make their competitive debuts during the crossing.
With only around 3,000 nautical miles separating the start and finish, there could be little opportunity for teams to recover from costly mistakes once the race gets underway.

The race also represents a significant moment in The Ocean Race's history.
For the first time, every team is required to race with an equal number of male and female sailors, with each four-person racing crew consisting of two men and two women.
Each boat will also carry an onboard reporter, bringing footage, interviews and updates directly from the fleet as the teams make their way across the Atlantic.
The race will also have an important scientific role.
All six IMOCAs are carrying equipment that will collect ocean and climate information as they cross the Gulf Stream, with more than 800,000 measurements expected to be gathered during the race.

The Ocean Race Atlantic begins in New York City on Tuesday, September 1.
The fleet will depart New York and head past some of the city's most famous landmarks before beginning its journey across the North Atlantic towards Lorient.
