This week's World Cup will be the biggest ever tournament with 48 teams heading to the USA, Canada and Mexico for what's set to be a memorable month of action.

Scotland are back on the global stage once again and are joined in a group with some familiar foes from France '98, as well as a World Cup minnow.

DAZN News takes a look at Group C, examining the teams, players and big games across the opening stage of World Cup 2026.

Predicted qualifiers

Brazil will be strong favourites to not only qualify but top the group, with Scotland and Morocco in a straight shootout for second place. However, given the ranking system on third sports, it's likely both could progress to the knockout stages.

The Teams

Brazil

World Ranking: 5
Best World Cup:  Winners, 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002

No World Cup is complete without a slice of Samba flavour, and the five-time record winners will be in the States, looking to win the trophy for the first time since 2002.

It's a Brazil side, perhaps lacking the marquee acts from their previous sides, but it boasts plenty of household names from across Europe's top leagues.

In attack, they can choose from Raphinha, Matheus Cunha, Igor Thiago and the returning Neymar. While Gabriel has shown at Arsenal what a top-class defender he is alongside skipper Marquinhos.

However, they only managed to finish fifth in the qualifying table, proof that they are not yet firing on all cylinders and remain a work in progress ahead of the tournament.

Key man - Vinicius Jr

Of all the attacking talent at Brazil's disposal, Vini remains their leading light and could be the difference maker. His pace and skills will have defenders quaking in their boots.

Manager - Carlo Ancelotti

Don Carlo steps into international management with the reputation of a serial winner. But can Brazil's first Italian coach raise his famous eyebrow and lead the Seleção to ultimate glory?

Morocco

World Ranking:  8
Best World Cup: Fourth place, 2022

Africa's strongest representative going to the World Cup this summer is Morocco, who currently occupies a place in the top ten of FIFA's World Rankings.

Four years ago, the Atlas Lions were one of the stories of Qatar as they reached the semi-finals of the competition, and they'll be expected to go deep into the tournament this time around, too.

They qualified from their group with eight wins out of eight and last year were eventually awarded the 2025 African Cup of Nations win, albeit in controversial fashion.

With a squad spread across Europe's top leagues and one of the best full-backs in world football, the Moroccans will be ones to watch again.

Key man - Achraf Hakimi

Arguably the best in his position in world football, Hakimi offers a dangerous outlet in attack, but thanks to his outrageous speed is rarely out of place at right-back either.

Manager - Mohamed Ouahbi

There's a fresh face leading the Africans after Walid Regragui quit last month. It's Ouahbi's first big post after previously being in charge of the nation's youth sides.

Scotland

World Ranking:  38
Best World Cup: Group stage 1954, 1958, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1998

Scotland make their first appearance at a World Cup finals since 1998 and come face-to-face with two opponents that were part of their group in France nearly 30 years ago.

The Tartan Army will head to the States in their droves with lofty expectations after watching Scotland see off Denmark in a dramatic qualifying shootout in their final group game.

The aim for the Scots will be to do what no Scottish team has ever done: progress from a group stage at a major tournament. With the expanded format, they will fancy their chances.

It's a squad that mixes the workmanlike profile of players like Andy Robertson and John McGinn, mixed with Italian seasoning, with several of the squad playing their football in Serie A - and they're ready to make history.

Key man - Scott McTominay

The definition of a clutch player, the midfielder has time and time again come up with the goods just when his country needed it, and will now look to repeat the trick on football's biggest stage.

Manager - Steve Clarke

Now in his seventh year in charge, Clarke has faced some criticism in recent months, but the stock is still high in the former defender after leading Scotland's World Cup return.

Haiti

World Ranking:  83
Best World Cup: Group stage 1974

It's been over 50 years since Haiti last graced the World Cup stage, as they take part in their second-ever tournament.

The only Caribbean team to have qualified twice, they go into these finals and this group very much as underdogs, as the second-lowest-ranked team in North America.

They finished above both Costa Rica and Honduras in their qualifying group, so they won't be pushovers, and have a squad that is spread around the world - including Sunderland's Wilson Isidor.

For the Les Grenadiers, the occasion of being among the best is an achievement worth celebrating and anything more a bonus.

Key man - Jean‐Ricner Bellegarde

One of Wolves' best performers this season, the midfielder became the first Haitian to play in the Premier League when he declared his allegiance to the country in 2025.

Manager - Sebastien Migne

A name who's previously coached exclusively in Africa, Migne has national team experience as Head Coach of Kenya and as part of the Cameroon staff before taking the Haiti job in 2024.
