Ben White England recall has ended one player's international career

On the surface, it should not be a surprise. White is a regular in the Arsenal team which seems to be destined for the Premier League title, along with reaching the latter stages of the FA Cup and Champions League.

But dig a little deeper, and White’s recall is one which will split opinion, and seemingly bring an end to a certain player’s future with the Three Lions.

White selection divides England fans

White is a divisive figure. He has made no secret about his little interest in football, and left England’s camp at Qatar 2022 after a disagreement with assistant coach Steve Holland.

Bear in mind the England set-up was finally an enjoyable environment to be around following the work done by then-manager Gareth Southgate to make playing for the Three Lions an opportunity to embrace rather than fear.

White’s exit prompted outrage from England fans, and rightly so. Playing for your country is the opportunity dreamed by so many, but only a reality for so few, and leaving the camp in the way White had led to calls that he should not return to the England set-up regardless of achievements at club level.

It seemed like that would be the case until now with White brought in on defensive cover after Bayer Leverkusen's Jarrell Quansah pulled out due to injury.

This decision has added further fuel to the Trent Alexander-Arnold fire who missed out on a fourth successive England squad.

Alexander-Arnold 'ends' England career with social media post

The Real Madrid right back is one of England’s best threats both offensively and defensively, and he has settled into life at the Spanish giants which can often make or break careers.

Ahead of a World Cup, where squad depth will be the key with the volume of matches and extreme heat, having someone as versatile as Alexander-Arnold is a no brainer.

However, a rift has been created between the 27-year-old and manager Tuchel who on Friday, revealed that he had not spoken to Alexander-Arnold about his omission.

“Not yet,” Tuchel responded when asked about contacting the two-time Premier League winner.

The German then followed this simple response with “I don’t know” as to whether Alexander-Arnold’s England career is over.

This is not the first time Alexander-Arnold has received the cold treatment after Tuchel publicly criticised his defensive abilities and lapses of concentration earlier this year.

With Tuchel in charge until the conclusion of Euro 2028, and the decision to pick players who many believe are inferior, Alexander-Arnold appears to have made peace with his immediate international future.

Following Real Madrid’s win over rivals Atletico on Sunday night, he posted on Instagram with a simple caption which “Madrid. And nothing else.”

Perhaps this is the clearest sign of Alexander-Arnold no longer caring about his next chapter with the Three Lions.
