Champions League Tuesday wrap-up: Sporting spoil Bodø/Glimt story, Arsenal cruise and Real Madrid eliminate Man City

Among the clubs in action were a trio of Premier League sides, two of whom saw their run in the competition come to an end.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from Tuesday's Champions League action.

Clock strikes midnight on Bodø/Glimt

The Cinderella story for FK Bodø/Glimt came to an earlier end that many thought after the Norwegian side grabbed a 3-0 win over Sporting CP last week, forcing the Portuguese club to climb a mountain if they wanted to advance.

Well, fortune finally shone on Glimt's opposition as Sporting did just that — winning 5-0 on Tuesday to completely overturn the aggregate and claim a spot in the quarter-finals.

Tuesday's result sees Glimt's fantastic Champions League run come to a close, after five straight victories for the Artic Circle outfit put them on the verge of the final eight.

It was not meant to be however, and Sporting showed their class with a dominant second half and extra time.

No remontada for Man City

Any thoughts of an epic Manchester City comeback were thwarted by the 22nd minute of Tuesday's second leg, as Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. slotted a penalty kick to give the La Liga giants a four-goal aggregate lead after they won last week's first leg 3-0 at the Bernabeu.

The Sky Blues fought back valiantly despite being a man down, with Erling Haaland scoring in the 41st minute to give his team the slightest glimmer of hope, but that was snuffed out completely when Vini nabbed his second of the match in stoppage time.

Haaland stated before the match that he felt good about Man City's chances of reversing the three-goal deficit, but it was always going to be a tall order against the Champions League's most successful club.

Instead, it's Real Madrid who go through, with a pair of meetings with Bayern Munich the most likely scenario.

Arsenal ease into quarters

The Gunners were confident ahead of their second leg against Bayer Leverkusen, with the teams having fought to a 1-1 draw in Germany last week.

With the deciding leg to taking place at the Emirates Stadium in London, Arsenal knew they could rely on their sizeable home-field advantage to give them the boost necessary to move on.

That's exactly what happened, with the Premier League leaders looking by far the better side in a 2-0 victory over Leverkusen on Tuesday, giving Arsenal a 3-1 aggregate win.

Arsenal peppered goalkeeper Janis Blaswich with 13 shots on target as they looked to secure their spot as quickly as possible, and just past the hour mark was when Declan Rice's low, driven shot sealed the deal for the Gunners.

Eberechi Eze scored a jaw-dropping goal in the first half as well, as the boyhood Arsenal fan continues to integrate himself as a massive part of Mikel Arteta's fearsome side.

PSG overwhelm Chelsea

Meanwhile on the other side of London, Paris Saint-Germain had no problems being the visiting side in a Premier League stadium as they ran out 3-0 winners of Chelsea, securing an 8-2 (!) aggregate victory.

The match wasn't as one-sided as the scoreline suggests, but PSG were easily the more clinical of the two teams even though they had no need to be.

Chelsea created several chances but lacked the kind of quality needed against a top class opponent, and the Parisians had all but sealed advancement into the quarters within the opening 15 minutes anyway.

It's fair to say that the honeymoon period for Liam Rosenior is officially over as the Blues have now lost three games in a row and have won just once in their past five Premier League matches as well.
