Curtis Jones leaves Liverpool for Inter Milan
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has completed his move to Inter Milan in a £30million deal.
The Serie A side will pay 30m euros up front (£25.6m) with a further 5m euros (£4.2m) in add-ons. Liverpool have also negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
Jones, 25, leaves Anfield after a 17-year association with the club.
He had one year remaining on his contract but was unhappy with the lack of playing time, especially last season, and made it known to new head coach Andoni Iraola as soon as he arrived that he wanted out.
He told the Inter website: “It’s a club that I’ve wanted to join for a while now so I’m excited.
“I’m a Scouse kid who came all the way through (at Liverpool) but I’m at a point now when I want to take the next step and I think this is the perfect club.
“I want to score goals, make assists and help the team – I’ll do whatever is going to make this team win.”
In an emotional Instagram post Jones said his farewell to his boyhood club.
“After 16 years, it’s time to say goodbye,” he wrote.
“This club is all I’ve ever known. I came here as a kid and I’m leaving as a man with a family of my own, which probably puts into perspective just how much of my life I’ve spent here.
“Now it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter for me and my family, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
“But Liverpool will always be a massive part of me. I came here as a kid with a dream, and I’m leaving having lived it.”
