Darrell Clarke intends to enjoy Tranmere’s strong run of form
Tranmere manager Darrell Clarke said he would enjoy the moment after his side made it five games unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Oldham at Prenton Park.
Dylan Jones put Tranmere ahead midway through the first half, finishing neatly after being played through by Tom Ince.
The hosts sealed the points with eight minutes remaining when Gus Scott-Morris handled inside the area and Joe Ironside put the result beyond doubt from the penalty spot.
Clarke, whose side now sit fourth in the League Two table and remain undefeated after five games, said: “It was an end-to-end game. It looked like two really good teams going at each other.
“Everybody on both teams gave everything for the shirt and we’re pleased we’ve come out on the right end of a 2-0 victory.
“They had chances but we potentially could’ve scored more, too. It was a good advert for the league, but we’re really pleased.
“Coming back from conceding two injury-time goals, for the boys to produce a good mentality performance like that is amazing.
“We’ve got to enjoy the moment and I’ve been guilty of that in the past, not enjoying the moment enough.
“Tonight’s a good moment for us and we’ll enjoy it but it’s back to work next week. It’s been a solid first five games of the season.
“There’s a lot to analyse when I watch it back and a lot to look through, but it’s really pleasing.
“The support we had from the fans today, the atmosphere was amazing and if we can keep delivering performances that give them hope, I’m sure they’ll get behind us.”
Oldham manager Micky Mellon, after tasting defeat to his former side, said: “It goes without saying that I’m disappointed with the amount of opportunities that we’ve had at good times today.
“I think we had 22 shots on goal, they would say good blocks, but we would say we’ve not been clinical enough.
“I couldn’t fault us in terms of effort, especially in the second half as it was pretty much one-way traffic.
“They had a couple of counter attacks that came to nothing really, but if you’re going to win games of football, you’ve got to be more ruthless and take your chances.
“It’s a frustrating afternoon and we’ve given away a crazy penalty at the end when there’s no need.
“We’ve definitely got to show a bit more quality in the final third because I think two thirds of the way we played was absolutely fine.
“The support we had today was amazing and they deserved us to be a bit more clinical and show a bit more quality when we got the opportunities.”
