Will David Moyes come back to haunt West Ham as Premier League relegation battle enters fresh chapter?

With just a handful of Premier League matches remaining in the season, time is running out for those at the bottom of the table to save their standing.

The past week has provided plenty of drama, with the quartet of sides at threat of relegation all picking up points, although some were more valuable than others.

Heading into the weekend, Tottenham are the team most at threat: Roberto De Zerbi's men occupy 18th position and are two points adrift of their nearest rival, West Ham United.

However, with a favourable fixture in their sights, could they leap out of the drop zone this weekend? DAZN News takes a closer look at the next chapter of a gripping relegation dogfight.

Can Nottingham Forest draw first blood?

Before Spurs even kick a ball, they could start the weekend eight points adrift of Nottingham Forest, with the Tricky Trees set to play Sunderland on Friday night.

After Forest's statement victory over Burnley last weekend, Vitor Pereira's side are bound to be full of confidence, with their star man, Morgan Gibbs-White, purring.

Sunderland have rediscovered their strong early-season form of late, defeating Leeds United and old foes Newcastle United away from home, and even though last week's chaotic defeat to Aston Villa would have hurt, they have every right to be brimming with confidence.

The Black Cats have not been as strong at the Stadium of Light since the turn of the year, and with Forest looking threatening, this really has the potential to go either way.

David Moyes returns to West Ham

When David Moyes led West Ham to the Europa Conference League, their first trophy in 24 years, not many would have expected the Hammers to be fighting for survival three years later.

However, after a series of poor managerial appointments and questionable recruitment, it is up to Nuno Espirito Santo to try to salvage their season.

Indeed, the Portuguese has done a stellar job in turning the East London club's fortunes around, picking up 19 points from their last 12 games, including a draw with Manchester City.

This weekend, they welcome Everton, who are the fifth-best away team in the division, having picked up 25 of their 47 points on the road.

In Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, the Irons have the firepower to hurt the Toffees, but Jordan Pickford and co are specialists in keeping clean sheets, having picked up 11.

Just like Forest's clash with Sunderland, this one is incredibly tough to call, but this is a fixture West Ham must target for maximum points.

Tottenham's must-win clash with bogey team Wolves

An away trip to the Premier League's bottom-of-the-table, and out-of-form, side Wolves would whet the appetite of Tottenham supporters, but this has been a rough fixture for them over recent years.

Spurs have not beaten the Old Gold since August 2022, when Harry Kane scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory.

Since then, the Lilywhites have picked up two points from a possible 18 against Wolves, with Joao Palhinha rescuing a point in the early tenure of Thomas Frank with a wonder strike.

Last weekend, De Zerbi's side showed a greater attacking impetus, with the returning Xavi Simons providing the attacking spark that had been lacking for so long, and they will need more of the same this weekend.

The North Londoners' defensive frailty was on full display again last weekend, and if Tottenham are going to get themselves out of this predicament, then they will need to shore up at the back.

It will be a cauldron of nerves for Spurs at Molineux, but if they can finally pick up their first win of 2026, then it could ignite a defining end-of-season run.

If Spurs lose, however, then it would be incredibly difficult to see them getting out of this mess.
