What changes could Tuchel make after Rice and Guehi developments?

As England prepares for a battle with Norway and Erling Haaland, Thomas Tuchel would have wanted his key men fit and fighting.

However, the German could be without key players Declan Rice and Marc Guehi after developments about their fitness.

The Manchester City centre-back will be assessed today as he reportedly has a slight hamstring injury following the Three Lions' victory over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.

As for Rice, it is understood he missed a second successive training session due to a sickness bug, which has aggravated a neural issue affecting his hamstring and lower back.

If Tuchel is without two of his starting talents, then how could he switch things up against Norway?

John Stones or Dan Burn to replace Marc Guehi?

Guehi surprisingly did not start England's opener against Croatia, with Ezri Konsa and Stones partnering each other in the hub of Tuchel's backline.

Since then, the former Crystal Palace man has played every single minute and has looked the Three Lions' sturdiest option in that position.

However, news of a hamstring issue is concerning, and if there is any doubt ahead of the quarter-final, then it would be wise to rest him despite Norway's obvious threat.

If Guehi is not ready, then either Stones or Dan Burn could slot straight in, and there would be reason for the latter to do so given his aerial ability.

Alternatively, the 52-year-old could move Konsa to right-back and play both, although it would be a risky move, considering Stones and Burn are yet to start together.

Given Haaland's immense aerial threat, it would be surprising if Burn did not feature at some point, but Stones would be regarded as the safer option, given his vast international experience.

What could Thomas Tuchel do if Declan Rice is absent?

Rice feels less of a concern than Guehi, given that his issue is sickness-related, but if he were to miss the quarter-final clash, then Tuchel would have a serious dilemma.

Elliot Anderson and Rice have partnered each other in all of the Three Lions' games, other than against Panama, where the German rotated, and the Arsenal man has looked the more assured of the pair.

Jordan Henderson was never likely to feature, but now he is out of the tournament, Kobbie Mainoo is the only natural central midfielder within the squad and has yet to play a single minute in North America.

If Tuchel is forced into a change, then he may do what he did in the final group game and move Jude Bellingham into Rice's role and put Morgan Rogers in an advanced berth.

However, that comes with risk as it would mean shifting Bellingham, who has thrived during the World Cup, bagging four goals and an assist as one of England's most potent weapons.

Another option would be Eberechi Eze, but that feels unlikely as he has been heavily utilised as an impact substitute.

Of course, Rice is expected to start, but if he doesn't and the Three Lions suffer, then questions will be asked about the depth of this team in the heart of midfield, with Adam Wharton and Alex Scott overlooked.
