Brazil qualified for this match as the winners of Group C, with two wins and a draw from their three group games. It wasn't smooth sailing for the Brazilians, who struggled against Morocco in their opening draw before back-to-back 3-0 victories against Haiti and Scotland, but the way they ended the group stage will give them faith that they can live up to the high standards expected of the five-time World Cup winners.

Meanwhile, Japan are in this match due to finishing second in Group F after winning once and drawing twice. The Samurai Blue's lone victory in the group stage was a 4-0 dismantling of Tunisia, bookended by the draws against the two Europeam sides in their group.
Now, they must face South American opposition for the first time in this tournament, and it doesn't get any bigger than the Brazilians.
